Project Description

THE CHALLENGE

Inventors of a back brace for dogs with IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) needed a manufacturing partner. They had a prototype that was in a very specific material and only one size. To better serve a variety of breeds, they needed to scale the product size for larger and smaller dogs.

Their ideal contract sewing partner would keep the manufacturing in the US, have advanced skills in a number of industrial sewing techniques, offer engineering and product development services and do it all at a competitive price.

THE SOLUTION

First, we sourced the exact material required for the back brace from our extensive relationships with a variety of textile suppliers.

Next, our engineering team created patterns for a medium dog based on the customer’s measurements and prototype. Once that was approved, we scaled it into small and large sizes using AutoCad. We created samples of the new sizes that the customer was able to validate on actual dogs and then approve.

We automated the production process with our programmable sewing machines to keep up with the customer’s requirements for product innovation and cost control.

We also worked with the customer to suggest several product improvements. This included a D-ring to allow the attachment of a leash and an improved product tag that was more durable and washable to withstand even the most adventurous dog’s exploits.

THE RESULT

The customer was thrilled to have found a contract sewing company that could serve as a true partner on a complex project and advance the success of their business. They were able to easily provide dogs of varying breeds an affordable, quality, US-made product that reduced their back pain and helped them avoid surgery.
